 Introduction:  “Science Confirms the Bible” – How can Christians be confident in God’s Word and its authority on origins? 

 Does your child go to public school?  More and more, the public school system is adopting an evolutionary worldview and teaching it as a fact to our kids.  It’s not that the theory of evolution represents the most probable explanation of our origin but that it helps explain our origins outside of a religious worldview.  After all, if the Bible was right about our origins, then other world views have to be wrong, and we can’t have that in our pluralistic society.   

 My kids went to Public Elementary School and would come home talking about the existence of dinosaurs in terms of “millions of years”.  But if dinosaurs existed millions of years ago, then the Bible’s account of our origins roughly 6,000 – 10,000 years ago can’t be true.   

 As much as I would try to counter some of these points, admittedly, I too had some trouble with some of the concepts.  “How do we know there was a global flood?”  “What about fossils dating back millions of years?”  “How can stars billions of light years away be seen by us if creation is only about 6,000 years old”?  “How do we explain different races of people”?     

So, one summer, our family took a trip to the Creation Museum in Kentucky, part of Ken Ham’s ministry, the “Institute for Creation Research” (ICR).  Ken was a Christian Science teacher in Australia who started the ministry after he saw a major gap in Christian resources around the origins of the universe.  After my visit, I have to say, I was incredibly encouraged by not only the authenticity of the Bible’s account of creation but I could defend the creationist’s account of origins through scientific reasoning and evidence.   

Our God invented logic. His world is full of order and proof of His inventing hand.  ICR has invested millions into real research and resources, to tell The Truth. Our kids need these resources so badly. Without these resources counteracting what is being taught to our kids, we can find ourselves losing the faith battle to the world.  

 This video condenses much of the content taught at the Creation Museum into a digestible 1-hour video.  Many of the concepts it addresses at a 30,000 ft. view can be further explained and extracted through more detailed videos on each of the concepts.  However, for starters, I would recommend this video for your middle schoolers or high schoolers to lay the groundwork for why they can be confident in what they believe.   

 My oldest son (15) plays ice hockey for a competitive team, so we travel a lot.  On the way to a tournament in CT, we played this video and listened to it together in the car.  It was a really good refresher for us both and a good reminder that God is in control of all things.   

 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have”.  The world will have you second-guessing yourself, accusing you of believing in fairytales.  Ironically, they tend to do this with anger while, in some cases, even feeling bad for you or making you feel like a second-class citizen and less intelligent because you have faith in the Bible’s account of origins.   

 That’s why Peter goes on to say, “But do this with gentleness and respect,” which means we go about it differently than the world.  We have to love the person we are debating to have the right tone.  But we also have to have the tools and resources we need to defend the Biblical account of creation, which is why I’m so thankful for Ken Ham’s ministry.   

 On Sunday nights before the week begins, our family gets together and does a Bible study which sometimes involves these resources.  It is a great way for them to be able to ask tough questions and learn that we have answers and counterpoints to what they are being taught in school.
